Yesterday the 27th of September 2012, was the last day in private practice in Brentwood. It has been an enjoyable and successful year there, meeting lots of lovely folk (not to mention being so near the high-street for good coffee and friend meet-ups).
There has been comments like “mad”and “crazy” etc regarding giving up a lucrative practice. We prefer to say we are veering towards sanity, wanting to treat more people at lower fees instead of high fees for one on one treatments. It’s all about the needles doing the work more so than the practitioner.
In China, people receiving acupuncture do so on a daily basis and usually within arms reach of the next person receiving treatment. In the West we have diluted the delivery of this medicine to mainly once a week (at best!) in a private room. With community acupuncture we are trying to lessen this dilution by encouraging frequent regular treatments in a communal room at an affordable price. Lets say you arrive with shoulder pain, and needles placed in your ankle relieve the pain, why do you need to be isolated on a couch, why can’t you just sleep and let the needles to the work whilst the next person gets their needles inserted. Makes sense doesn’t it!
Acupuncturists consider themselves as professionals (and rightly so after all the study they have done), yet many of them would find it a financial struggle to attend for treatment on a frequent regular basis. Doesn’t that just spell out or indeed scream out that something needs to change. Well Essex Acupuncture Room is part of that something, along with a few similar clinics in the UK and over 200 community clinics in the USA.
Our vision is for more and more folk to be able to receive this medicine without it breaking their bank accounts. We don’t want to hear pensioners saying “ooh my pension might just about stretch to that” [high fee], or “I can only afford to attend once a fortnight” or “my friend could really benefit from this but wouldn’t be able to afford it“.
In the UK health care arena, the NHS is Goliath and Essex Acupuncture Room has a notion of being a David of sorts. Western Medicine is amazing and fantastic for a lot of conditions/issues there is no denying that. All we want is to etch acupuncture on everyone’s radar as a safe, effective, powerful and natural medicine another option/choice for you to consider.
With our focus being fully on Community Acupuncture the Writtle clinic is now open 4 days a week. This gives you more choice when booking an appointment. Keep watching this site for up and coming promotions.
