Our fore-sisters the suffragettes, did some mighty work for women’s rights and no doubt set the foundation for the life of women today. Do you think for 1 minute that their health needs were properly and promptly attended to ? I very much doubt it.
The 21st Century is well and truly upon us and yet surprisingly there are still some issues relative to health that should and could be dealt with differently. Should our gender inflict suffering or discomfort either cyclic or, on and off?
This got me thinking along the lines of a kind of Ode to Women’s Health
Whilst the above is focused on the physical symptoms we experience, most women will no doubt be able to add the emotional impact relating to the before, during or after the physical symptom which is just as important to be heard and attended to as the physical side.
A Manifesto for Women’s Well-Being (of sorts)
So what do we want? (you can shout this out loud if you are a woman, you men folk might just want to adapt the words because, no doubt these impact on you and your relationship with us). We want………… painless regular periods, down with Clots or PMT, No to flooding. Yes to regular ovulation and Healthy happy Pregnancies, and banish unwanted uncomfortable menopausal symptoms. Overall we want choice, and options from the normal pills, potions and surgeries on offer. We want to be treated as a whole person. Our health is not soley about dis-ease with our X-Chromosome organs but more about ease with our whole body, mind and spirit being. (Do I hear an Amen to that sister?)
We want to be listened to, and attended to safely so we can enjoy our WOMANHOOD. In our fore-sisters time and even in relatively recent times women’s health concerns were often labelled under “hysteria” incredible I know. Well thank goodness times have changed but there is always room for improvement.
Can you imagine the faces of those suffragettes if they knew that today our health and well-being is high on the agenda of health care providers such as acupuncturists. I for one am imaging a group of smiling women punching the air saying yeah it sure is happening.
